New Android Virus Completely Takes Over Your Phone

A new virus discovered by researchers at NC State has managed to avoid detection by two popular anti-virus mobile apps, and has been detected in at least two infected applications for Android platforms.

DroidKungFu

The researchers claim that the new malware, called DroidKungFu, allows hackers to completely take over your phone. This gives them the ability to access all your stored data, or even worse, it allows them to turn your phone into a bot, making it do whatever the hacker desires.

Assistant professor Xuxian Jiang and Ph.D. student Yajin Zhou think DroidKungFu is worst than other Android malware because it has the ability to slip by security software undetected. Smartphones running Android 2.2 Froyo or earlier are the most susceptible to DroidKungFu.

The malware is being spread through Android app stores and forums based in China. Avoiding downloading from unknown app stores, and checking permissions before installing anything to your smartphone, will give you a better chance of avoiding DroidKungFu.
